Don graduated from the University of Utah in Finance in 1975. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity while there serving in various leadership positions. While going to college, he joined the Army Reserve and went to Ft. Lewis, Washington for basic training, Ft. Ord, California for infantry training, Ft. Benning, Georgia for Infantry Officer Training School, and Ft. Sam Houston, Texas for training in the Medical Service Corp.

In 1977, he started work with Akerlow Thomas and Dyer as an associate responsible for finding and developing new projects, and selling investment product as it was being developed. Projects included office buldings, residential and resort condominiums, residential land, and leasing of office space.

| Since coming back to Salt Lake City from Southern California, Don organized the Utah Investment Council (UIC), which is a group of investment brokers representing every major real estate firm in the Salt Lake Valley to help facilitate the sale of investment property and also gauge where the market is heading. Don is currently the President as well as founder and is also on the UIC Executive Council. |
